Be Free

Sixteen years of age

Not my birth mother

Shaping my hair.

Possessive hands

That wanted to own me

Wanted it brushed down.

Trying to mould me

Make me hers.

I wanted it brushed back

Didn’t want to hide

The girl inside -

She had to come out

But not in that home

Not under those hands.

Not under that roof.

Beyond their reach

Wishing no harm

Wanting to be me

I put on a skirt and

Walked down the street

Wanting only to free

the girl inside of me

Wanting only to be free.

Poem published with women’s aid called Her Other Language

‘Standing Her Ground’

She speaks out

Makes her mark,

She isn’t afraid to talk.

She has strength and control,

She is an advocate for other women,

She empowers women.

She is an inspiration to other women,

She follows her heart and soul,

She loves herself and other people in her life.

Claire’s Poem ‘Hope’

‘AN ANGEL OF HOPE’

An angel comes in many forms,

An angel can be people and friends,

Angels come at a time,

When you least expect it.

You’re an angel of hope,

An angel of love,

An angel of friendship,

An angel of guidance.

An angel of loyalty,

You’re a teacher of appreciation,

You’re a shining light in the dark.

‘KNOCK IN SLIGO’

In search for healing,

I went to knock the shrine in Sligo,

Where I wanted a miracle.

I wanted to be healed & happy within oneself

I prayed & asked for something in my life,

Eight years later the miracle happened.

I healed a few years after the prayer,

Just have faith & be delivered onto you.

'ISOLATE’

With this isolation can be lonely,

No places to go or to meet,

Always try to think positive.

Make a puzzle of write a poem,

We will get through this together,

As a nation we get stringer.

Talk to people on line or on the phone,

Email is handy to have!

Keep strong & keep safe.

‘STAND’

As a nation we need to stand together,

Stay in doors to save lives,

Do your bit for the NHS.

Don’t isolate yourself but speak to a friend on the phone,

Bring back before there was internet,

Bring back communication,

Bring back solidarity.

‘SMILE’

Tomorrow will come,

Tomorrow is our future,

Tomorrow will happen.

If you smile at the world,

The world will smile back,

Keep smiling!!

‘LOST LOVE’

To love someone,

To stop loving the person suddenly,

Falling out of love with them aged twelve.

They didn’t respect me,

Trying to love that person again,

The love driven out of me.

All the love spark gone,

It was driven by them,

Thinking that I would love them again,

It never happened.

‘FOOTPRINTS’

Friends who we meet leave footprints in our hearts,

Shining light in our hearts,

Footprints that stay in our lives.

To the end of time,

Friendships that I had when I was sixteen,

Left footprints in my life.

‘LA LUNA’

La Luna comes weekly,

La Luna changed our mood,

Captured by the spell of the moon.

Helps to change & develop us,

Follow your heart,

Look for la Luna for guidance,

The moon can affect people’s moods,

La Luna has feminine qualities.

‘A CANDLE’

A Candle in the dark,

Shimmering light in the room,

Shine your light into the dark.

Open your heart

A compliment from you,

Brightens up my heart,

You’re the candle that brightens me up.

Dedicated to Cara!

‘Cara Feeling Her Age’

Shortly before Cara’s birthday,
Gloria sent her birthday reminders,
Adding one hundred years to her age.

Gloria & Cara met for coffee,
Cara asked when was her birthday?
Gloria was surprised that Cara didn’t know when her birthday was.

Old age must be creeping in,
At the happy age of one and thirty seven,
Cara must keep doing brain teasers.

Wonder Woman’

Spring sunny morning,
Gloria met Cara for coffee,
Cara a woman of many talents.

Being late one of them,
Gloria calls her Mrs late,
Cara’s yarns from being tired.

Gloria asked why she was tired,
Cara replies with, no choice,
With having two kids.

Missing lost hours of sleep,
That morning Cara,
Hoovered & moped the floor.

Prepared & shipped the kids to school,
Then met Gloria for coffee,
Wonder Woman.

Rainbow’

Gloria says to Cara,
Been painting flat with, different colours,

She asked was it the same,
As the previous flat?

Gloria said sort of, meaning,
Each wall & door a different, colour,
Gloria said to Cara.

It will grow on you,
She replied with,
Grow on me like fungus.

Gloria said ouch,
Ten minutes later,
Cara walks out of shop with.

Lilac & orange paint,
A few days later, Gloria,
Texted Cara asking if.

She could paint her,
House in rainbow colours,
She replied with yes, thanks.

Journey Of Life With The Angels’

My heart hurting with emotional pain,

Searching to heal my heart I went to

Our Lady Of Knock Shrine in Ireland.

To help in my recovery of healing myself,

To find peace within my own heart,

To get back on the road of happiness & enjoyment.

On my journey drawn towards Angel’ & Fairy ornaments,

Each one am attracted to bring home with me,

Each Angel  & Fairy ornament a significance & comfort,

To help me to heal myself.

Giving me courage of hope along the journey of healing,

Finding comfort within myself from the Angel’s with me,

On my journey with the Angels!

A sign of how much comfort & healing,

To heal my heart & soul,

To find peace within my heart,

Love & Light.

Her Feminine Sparkle’

Gloria getting dressed in the morning,

Putting on her white bra and blouse,

Co-ordinating her shoes and handbags to her outfit.

Gloria is ready to take on the world,

After applying her makeup and lipstick,

For a wonderful day of enjoyment.

She walks with a smile to the shops,

Loves doing plenty of retail therapy,

Resulting in her bank card,

Saying please go to sleep!!

Gloria creating her feminine qualities,

People absorbing her feminine sparkle!!

Love and Light.

Making Love Out Of Nothing At All’

Her heart beating fast from her emotions,

Her emotions like a roller coaster out of control,

Her heart all over the place.

She’s in too deep in love with someone?

Does she follow her heart and soul?

Does she walk away from love?

She knows how to feel love and to face the truth,

She knows where she wants to be touched and loved,

To be cherished by love.

Making a fuss out of nothing at all,

Making love out of nothing at all!

Gold Watch With A Safety Chain’

Years of window shopping for a gold Seiko watch with a safety chain,

She saved up to buy a gold watch with a safety chain,

The watch with safety chain was feminine!

So many people admired her gold Seiko watch,

She started wearing her watch for special occasions to avoid breaking it,

She then built up confidence to wear it all the time!

One day when getting dressed,

Choosing to wear a cheap watch or her good watch for a walk?

She wore a white blouse, black skirt, black high heels & black handbag.

Dressed up, wearing her gold Seiko watch,

Loosely on her wrist with her other jewellery,

She hadn’t a care in the world, lapping up the sunshine!

So many people admired her watch & outfit as she always looked pretty,

She caught her heel on the edge of the lake,

She fell into the water.

With her handbag, clothes & jewellry on,

Landing in the water with her watch on,

Splashing about, her watch came loose, onto the safety chain.

Having to swim worried of losing her lovely watch,

Luckily for the safety chain her gold watch remained on her wrist but loose,

Not lost in the water, her handbag filling with water.

Just wanting to get out of the water,

Worried about losing her watch,

She had to swim through mud to get out of water.

Her white blouse, as black as her black skirt,

Her gold jewellery & watch covered in mud,

Jewellery & watch couldn’t be seen from all the mud,

Her gold Seiko watch & jewellery glistening in the light.

'Leaves'

Brown leaves falling from the trees,

Walking & sliding through the brown mushy leaves,

Green leaves still on the trees,

The autumn weather in the air,

The dark evenings are drawing in,

Waking up with bright sunny cold mornings.

The crisp cold air in my lungs,

It’s too cold to sit by a tree in skirt & shoes,

In a café drinking a cup of coffee,

Candles at night lit, with brown leaves dropping from trees!

Return home from the cold,

Autumn is here, so curl up in front of the tv and a warm blanket.

Halloween is coming!

'The Nights Are Drawing In'

Spring, summer has gone & now it’s autumn

The cold & dark nights,

Clocks going backwards 1 hour,

Crisp frosty mornings,

Heading out in windy – blustery weather

My skirt blowing around me in the wind.

People saying its cold, its winter,

Isn’t that what they say during the summer?!

We embrace the spring & summer with Tropical fashion,

Let’s embrace the winter with Wrapped up fashion!

Put on the woolly gloves & coats to embrace autumn & winter.

Look on the bright side, when autumn & winter is over,

We then have spring & summer to look forward too!

'Appreciation'

Do we appreciate life?

The things that we take for granted?

When did you last say to your loved one’s that you

Love them?

What would you do if they weren't in your Life?

Do you say Thank You when it is most welcome?

When your child throws poster paint onto your blouse?

Do you yell at them?

Or do you say not to worry?

Or say I love you more than the blouse.

Try not worrying about the things of little importance,

That we have no control over and show appreciation,

We are alive and well.

A cuddle means more than a thousand words,

Love and support is rewarded in heaven.

'Her Wish To Go To The Prom'

Gloria wished she was invited to a prom wearing a lovely ball gown,

She spent a lot of time dreaming about going to a prom,

Wearing her long length ball gown.

Feeling happy and warm inside,

Set to go to the graduation ball and wearing her prom dress,

Being with friends, who love and care for her.

Not going to the ball would make her feel sad,

Unloved and not part of the group,

Gloria dreamt of picking her handbag.

Shoes, preparing her makeup,

Getting her hair done, being the princes of the ball,

Looking and feeling great.

Gloria wanted to be the same as other peers her age,

Being wanted and liked, being in a crowd than outside of a crowd,

She filled up with excitement set for the ball, but it’s only a dream,

Gloria only got one chance to be bell of the ball.

                                 ‘The Burgundy Ball Gown’

She looked for ages for a ball gown,

She found a lovely satin burgundy long length ball gown,

The dress had her name on it!

The dress makes her look elegant,

Wearing her burgundy ball gown,

With burgundy high heels & black patent handbag.

She feels & looks a million dollars,

Her jewellery setting the dress off well,

Her dream of finding such a lovely dress came true.

                                                                         She feels like a princess,

Received so many lovely compliments,

How radiant it makes her look.

She feels she is the belle of the ball!

She thanked the Angels!

'A Twinkle Flame’

A whirly flame glistening,

In the light brightening shine,

Impulse of the glow,

Pushing out the black smoke,

An orange glowing flame,

A Twinkle flame.

What Is Love?’

What is Love?

What is it to be loved?

What is to know love?

To be loved by someone,

To be cherished from their love,

To feel it in her heart.

Feeling the warmth of love,

In her whole body,

Gloria head over heels in love.

Her skipping down the road with joy,

Going to her beauty salon smiling,

With love written all over her face.

It’s good feeling to be loved,

Than not to be loved at all,

She cherishes the memories of love

Gloria's Handbag With Secrets!

Gloria never would leave home without her handbag even to go out the post box, just one minute from her home.  A woman’s handbag contents have changed from forty years ago; handbags were smaller, compared to now, handbags are now larger and weigh on average to a small bag of potatoes.  Gloria would co-ordinate her handbag to match an outfit she was wearing when going out.  A few years ago Gloria had over four-hundred handbags, due to health and safety, handbags landing on her head, she had to do a massive clear out!  Not a dry tear was seen!

Gloria used a different handbag every day, were a lot of women wouldn’t be bothered using a different handbag but didn’t bother Gloria.  In Gloria’s handbag she would carry her makeup bag, perfume, two pens, two lipsticks, in case she left one at home.  Gloria’s would also carry in her handbag crystals and an angel stone.  One occasion Gloria went off to Newcastle, where she stayed overnight.  She went for a walk up a mountain, in her heels and a good gold dressy handbag; she decided to cross over rocks in heels and slipped into the lake.  Her handbag filled up with water, normally Gloria brings a spare handbag with her, on this occasion; she didn’t, of all the occasions when she needed a spare handbag.  Gloria went and bought a handbag from a charity shop, when she had about four-hundred handbags at home!!!

They say a woman’s handbag is a statement of her personality and Gloria certainly makes a statement with all her handbags.  Gloria has a handbag for every mood, colour, styles, size, occasion she could ever wish for.  Gloria wears modern clothes but mixes her style with various vintage handbags, for evenings out or Sunday lunch.  The 1980’s style handbags for Gloria have a style about them; the modern style evening handbag doesn’t have style about them!  With the internet now with easy access has helped Gloria to buy back some of the handbags she gave away.

An average week, Gloria could buy up to ten handbags and between two and four handbags in one day.  In one month Gloria had bought approximately twenty handbags, talk about an addiction to handbags!  Gloria bought three most expensive handbags in her life, when someone humiliated her in a shopping centre she went and bought a Prada handbag, when she sold her motorcycle.
